Evening Foot Soak Tradition

This practice appears in household records from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 CE).

Historical illustration of evening household routines

Throughout Chinese history, families would prepare warm water in wooden basins during evening hours. Dried herbs, particularly mugwort, were sometimes added to the water as part of seasonal household practices.

Ancient texts from Chinese culture contain passages about living in harmony with seasonal changes. These writings reflect historical worldviews about aligning with natural rhythms during different times of year.
